Avocado growing project

Updated: Apr 27

Welcome to Angels of Africa's Avocado Farming Initiative - a pioneering venture in agroforestry aimed at generating sustainable income and fostering environmental stewardship.

Our journey into avocado farming began in 2021 with the planting of slightly over 3,000 fast-growing avocado seedlings on one of our properties in southwestern Migori. While the initial growth rate reached an impressive 75%, the fruits of this labor truly underscore the promise and potential of our project.

With our first harvest in December 2023, we've already begun to reap the rewards of our efforts. These avocados, nurtured within the diverse ecosystem of our agroforestry project, are a symbol of the transformative power of sustainable agriculture. By integrating avocado trees alongside other non-avocado species, we're not only maximizing land productivity but also promoting biodiversity and soil health.

As stewards of the land, we recognize the importance of closely monitoring our avocado orchard to ensure its long-term success. Through diligent observation and data collection, we remain vigilant in identifying any potential challenges or opportunities for improvement.

Our avocado farming project is about more than just cultivating a crop—it's about sowing the seeds of economic empowerment and community resilience. As we continue to expand our orchard and increase our yields, we're creating sustainable livelihoods for individuals and families in the region. By diversifying income sources and harnessing the potential of agroforestry, we're laying the foundation for a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
